At Grace, Care Ministers – laypeople equipped and guided by the GraceCares ministry – exist as an expression of our belief that every believer is a minister. Care Ministers and Care Receivers are prayerfully paired for a period of 3-12 months, during which they agree to meet for an hour each week. During this time, Care Ministers listen and ask thoughtful questions, walking through life with their Care Receivers, offering spiritual guidance and practical help through a biblical lens. Names and details are kept confidential, providing Care Receivers with both intimacy and anonymity.
A Care Minister was matched with a man who had recently lost his job in a competitive industry. They met weekly between services.
Because he had made mistakes when in similar position decades ago, the Care Minister shared advice that led his Care Receiver to a stable job with a good future.
Even though that crisis is over, they still meet on Sunday mornings and often sit together during service.
A young woman requested a Care Minister to help her through the anxiety of her second cancer diagnosis and surgery. Having been through it once, she knew she needed support to do it again.
After prayer, the Care Team matched her with a Care Minister. The two women realized at their first meeting that the Care Minister had faced same kind of cancer decades earlier.
God had lovingly met the young woman’s need, and these women formed a deep friendship.
